.....
The vehicle’s development took 27 months. From the early concept stage, designers and engineers from GM Daewoo and General Motors targeted the Lacetti Premiere as a global product that would meet the highest quality and performance standards in the most sophisticated markets. The vehicle was put through intensive durability testing, extreme weather tests, and over 210 crash tests both at home and abroad to achieve its quality goal.
......
The Lacetti Premiere is powered by a 1.6-liter DOHC ECOTEC III engine that generates maximum power of 114 ps at 6,400 rpm and maximum torque of 15.5 kg.m at 4,200 rpm.
The ECOTEC III engine includes a series of advanced features that enhance performance.Variable Valve Timing (VVT) on both inlet and exhaust sides ensure added power, better fuel economy and lower emissions. Dual Continuous Variable Cam Phasing (DCVCP) selects the optimal timing of both the intake and exhaust valves, resulting in improved fuel efficiency and lower emissions.
The engine has increased durability due to its exhaust manifold and converter that are made of stainless steel rather than cast iron. Additionally, the virtually maintenance-free toothed timing belt does not need to be changed for 10 years or 160,000 km
.......
The technological backbone of the Lacetti Premiere is the application of the General Motors’ unique GM LAN (Local Area Network). The new electric control system ensures information is properly communicated and shared between the vehicle’s system modules. It reviews information sent via the GM LAN Serial Data Network, deciphers it, and then sends the appropriate commands for its functional area, replacing the conventional point-to-point wiring system
.......
The Lacetti Premiere is also equipped with an array of technically advanced chassis systems, including the Sensitive Electronic Stability Control system (SESC).This incorporates the Electronic Brake Force Distribution System (EBFDS), Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) and Traction Control System (TCS), enabling it to sense the slipping of the wheels and prevent the vehicle from sliding.
Other technical improvements to the chassis control system include Straight Line Stability (SLS), Cornering Brake Control (CBC) and Engine Drag Control (EDC), which ensure more stable driving and center-on feel. Larger front and rear disc brakes, which provide improved braking and pedal feel, further enhance control of the upgraded chassis system.
........
On top of the solid body structure, a multi-crash load path structure on both the side and rear of the body will play a key role in securing an expected five-star NCAP (New Car Assessment Program) crash safety rating in Korea, Europe and the U.S.
Other safety features include an airbag sensing and diagnostic module that triggers airbags in just five milliseconds when detecting a high-speed impact, even from the side; collapsible pedal assemblies that reduce the chance of injury to the driver’s lower body in the event of a collision; and rollover sensing that reduces lateral force by applying the brakes to the outside wheels.

Optimal Performance
The wide 6.14:1 overall ratio of GM Daewoo’s six-speed automatic transmissions optimizes engine use and delivers improved fuel economy at high speeds compared to typical four-speed automatic transmissions. It also offers smooth, seamless upshifts and downshifts.
Owing to a wide overall ratio, the Tosca Premium 6 equipped with the transmission and a 2.5-liter engine delivers up to 15 percent better fuel economy when constantly driven at 90-120 km/h compared to its predecessor with a five-speed automatic transmission. Additionally, the transmission improves 0-40 km/h and 0-60 km/h performance of the Tosca by up to 10 percent, respectively.
“GM Daewoo’s new transmissions have small steps between their six forward gears,” explained GM Daewoo Powertrain Executive Director Byung-Wan Park. “This enables them to quickly locate the optimal gear for the speed and road conditions, bolstering both performance and handling.”
In combination with a wide overall ratio, this also enables a steep 4.58:1 first gear, which helps deliver improved launch and acceleration while ensuring dynamic driving at lower speeds. The small steps also enable a 0.75:1 overdrive sixth gear. This “tall” overdrive gear reduces engine rpm at highway cruising speeds, thereby reducing engine wear and improving fuel economy.
GM Daewoo offers two variants of the Hydra-Matic six-speed automatic transmission: the 6T40 for inline six-cylinder gasoline engines and the 6T45 for higher-torque VCDi ( Variable Turbocharger Common Rail Diesel Injection) engines.
Compact Size
Despite the higher number of gears, both variants are the size of a conventional four-speed transmission, making them among the most compact in their competitive classes. The length/width/height of the 6T40 is 341 mm/537 mm/386 mm and the length/width/height of the 6T45 is 366 mm/537 mm/386 mm.
The compact size has been made possible in part by the mechanical simplicity of the transmissions’ advanced clutch-to-clutch operation, which provides smooth shift feel and packaging efficiency. This is achieved through the utilization of three planetary gears, three stationary clutches and two rotating clutches.
A narrow hyper-elliptical torque converter enabled engineers to further minimize the size of the transmissions. Using a single plate lockup clutch and featuring an oval cross-section, it also reduced the weight of the transmissions while improving hydraulic performance.
“This compact packaging will allow GM Daewoo to adopt the six-speed automatics across our portfolio,” said Byung-Wan Park. “GM Daewoo plans to gradually roll out the Hydra-Matic six speeds from the current midsize segment to our products in the intermediate and small segments.”
Reduced Complexity
A 32-bit intelligent controller included in a sophisticated internal Transmission Electro-Hydraulic Control Module (TEHCM) is mounted inside the transmissions, reducing vehicle complexity. The unit operates while bathed in transmission fluid, which protects it from external percussions and facilitates modular design and assembly. The TEHCM also controls the use of “tap shift” Driver Shift Control (DSC). Using DSC, the driver can manually select his or her preferred gear for specific road conditions.
A compact on-axis, fixed-displacement IX Gear-type fluid pump lowers noise, vibration and harshness levels and improves hydraulic efficiency. Electronic safeguards prevent improper shifting, which could damage the engine or affect vehicle control.
The use of DEXRON ®-VI premium transmission fluid, which has a more consistent viscosity than similar fluids on the market, further improves durability and shift stability, resulting in improved torque transfer and shift performance. As a benefit to consumers, there is no need to replace the fluid over the life of the transmission during normal use.

GM Daewoo manufactured its first Hydra-Matic six-speed automatic transmission in November 2007 following extensive validation testing and calibration. The transmissions were developed to meet the 322,000-km (200,000-mile) durability target, which is almost double that of other conventional transmissions.
