a carpc isn't for everyone... the biggest mistake I see with carpc's in general is the guys who want a carpc because they think it'll be cheaper than a multimedia head unit... that is the single worse reason to consider a carpc in my opinion... a carpc is not an appliance, it is not a substitute for an appliance & it is not a multimedia head unit. it may eventually be built well enough to kinda emulate a multimedia head unit, if you don't understand the difference there then a carpc is NOT for you.
a carpc takes dedication & tinkering & learning & it will cost you... it will cost you way more than any multimedia head unit, in money sometimes, but more so in time & dedication & frustration... much the same way many good things in life have high costs for success.
if you don't have tons of patience then a carpc is NOT for you
if you don't handle frustration & trial & error well then a carpc is NOT for you.
if you can't handle spending many many hours learning & then learning some more then a carpc is NOT for you.
if you think your going to get it right the first time & just put it in & it works, then a carpc may NOT be for you.
if you can't accept the fact that you will wind up wasting way more time just wasting time & getting no where at times than it woulda took to install a whole multimedia head unit in the first place then a carpc is NOT for you.
for every successful install, the kind that the owner says "woh, I will always have a carpc from now on", I'll bet that there are at least 10 failed attempts too, by guys like you who tried it & just wasn't really successful, then quit... if your a quitter then a carpc is NOT for you.
your kinda preaching your advice to the wrong crowd here. many of the guys here are dedicated to a carpc to the point that failure is just not an option, if it isn't good enough, then we learn WHY it isn't good enough, & then we REDO it to be good enough... still don't satisfy? then regroup, come up with a solution, & then attack the problem again...
very few guys have a successful install there first time out... the second will be better cause you will learn from the first.. the 3rd will be even better & so on... that's for the dedicated non quitters... the quitters are not going to make round 2,3 & so on... your the perfect example of this.
this is NOT to say ANYTHING negative about you really, if a carpc is not for you then it's just not for you... there is nothing wrong with that... the only thing wrong with that is that you had to, in your eyes, waste the time & effort finding this out... don't feel too bad, many guys have gone down the same road as you & realized that a carpc takes a lot of dedication & is not just a matter of putting it in & then touching the screen to control it.
the real bottom line, if you just want mp3's & video's to play in your car, & maybe blue tooth phone connection & stuff, & you just want to be able to use this daily with the least amount of hassles then a carpc may not be a wise choice... there are many better ways of achieving that now a days that are way cheaper in OVERALL costs involved. if despite all this, you say to your self, I don't care, I want a carpc anyway & I will do whatever it takes to achieve that, then maybe a carpc is for you...
there are many guys here that there is nothing that will stop them from eventually realizing there goal of having a functioning PC in there car that satisfies them, nothing! it could short out & blow up tomorrow & while being a disappointment, it is just another setback & stumbling block in the hobby of the carpc... no one said it was going to be easy, anyone that said that is going to be the same kinda guy who is going to eventually abandon it anyway, as there is nothing easy about it. you have to really want it bad enough that no obstacle will get in your way... we know that there are SOME successful installs out there, if your the type of person that says "if they can do it so can I, & I will do whatever it takes to reach that", then a carpc may actually be right for you
for some guys, myself included, there is NOTHING you could POSSIBLY say that would make them NOT have a carpc
